Birds jewelry

Inspired by the birds I was creating lately, I made these two new brooches.
The Handkerchief Brooch and the bird in the bag Brooch.
They are both made by the same techniques I used for the birds dolls - a piece of old socks added with embroidery and crochet details.
I got the idea for this one when I was creating the winter bird.
I found out that the handkerchief in bird's pocket looks so stylish and thought why shouldn't human get this piece of birds style.
Besides that this kind of embroidery handkerchiefs remind me my grandmother who liked this kind of stuff so much.

The idea for this little bird came after the mother bird and her little nestling whom she carries in her bag.

I thought that the little nestling may be lost if it wouldn't be attached to the bag but I also liked the idea of playful jewelry,which one can change its look and make the decision every day how to place the bird in the bag.

The solution as you can see was attaching it with a crochet thread so now it wouldn't get lost but and remain playful.


For each brooch I sew a cloth envelope to protect them, they are so tiny.

I haven't made any piece of jewelry for long time and I really enjoyed it. So I'm off to make some more!

White bird with young Red bird

Mother bird and her little red fledgling spent wonderful time together.

The young bird wished they could play like that all day long.

But mother bird had other plans,

They had to go back home.

Eyelids crocheting

My birds got wings, head and beak, only eyes were missing.

By a small ball of stitched piece of socks I created the eyeballs and sew it to the crocheted head.

The small bird got a crocheted eye lids.

For the bigger bird it was more complicated, as this bird ordered a made to measure pair of eyelids with eyelashes.

I crocheted both in one piece

and attached it to the head, same as I did with the eyeballs.

It was a very gentle operation, I had to keep it very accurately right on its place, taking care of not causing any damage to the bird's eyesight.

Bye Bye Mother Bird

The little birds noticed that something is going on on my desk, some new thing was placed there.

Mother bird and little nestling got a flying tickets to the US and they were packing themselves. The help of the other birds was very efficient.

They are going to miss mother bird and little nestling.
They promised to mail everyday, but hoped that maybe mother bird will change her mind.

They even tried to protest,
but ended up on the floor, making plans for dinner.

The Winter Bird

It's not cold here in TelAviv yet, even though it is almost the end of November. People are yet hanging around in their summer clothes, but not the Winter Bird.
For this bird it is already too cold since the end of August. It put on its wool coat, scarf, pullover

and carry her handkerchief in its pocket, it suffers from runny nose all the time.

Just like I do.

Sometimes it is really getting too hot even for us (the winter bird and me).

Birds with Flowers

The birds are finally done, but just before introducing them I have an announcement to make: My dolls who for long time felt that my etsy store is too crowded for them with all the slippers shoes finally changed accommodation and got space of their own over here.

Now it's birds time:

The girl and the bird

I made this newspaper and tape model, in order to use it for designing a pattern for new bird doll.

When the pattern was done, I sewed a muslin model, but it didn't look too good...

I fixed the pattern and sewed another one, which is looking much better.

Using the new pattern, I sewed this bird from Gal's old sweatshirt; for a while, it sat waiting on my desk,

while I was busy with another doll I have been working on lately.

Mother bird, little nestling and wizard

The birds family was keeping up with reproducing themselves and now I got another three birds flying all over with some weird ideas and demands.

The mother bird missed her little nestling every time she had to leave the nest for couple of hours, so does the little nestling.This morning she had the brilliant idea of the bag and asked my help with crocheting it. Now they don't have to part any more. They both were very pleased by the new idea.

When it was noon time the little nestling jumped to play out and mother bird caught a nap.

This little birdy have a lot of energies in its crocheted hands or at least it believes so. It reads all magic books it could find in birds language and visits almost every day the local magics store. As far as me and the other birds noticed it hasn't much success with its magics but it keeps on practicing, maybe one day it will become one of the greatest wizards the world of birds ever known. Who knows...

Pink Creature

A new creature was born yesterday.

Today, he already had a busy day of meetings. First he was introduced to some other members of the Bobilina sock creature community.

At lunch time he was introduced to one of the most important members of the crochet community: Mother Bird.The pink creature was so curious to see the wee bird in Mother Bird's bag; he had never seen such a small creature before!

It was a lot for one day. The pink creature had to take a rest and think about it all.
