No summer schools for socks dolls

Socks creature junior on his summer vacation, singing his famous tillalay tillily tilloy...
song. It is a special song for holidays.
I just felt the same this week when I had time off from my weekly workshops, unfortunately tomorrow I had to teach a summer workshop.
The creatures will stay at home, lucky they there are no summer schools for socks dolls.

The cats dog and the sheep dog

Remember that I asked if you ever thought what kind of socks would you be if you were socks?
Well those dogs took it seriously, really seriously, they spent a long time wondering what kind of socks would they be.

It ended up like this: when this dog saw the sheep socks he felt that this is the answer - he is definitely sheep socks.

The same happened to this dog with the cats socks.

*They are both listed in my etsy, check them out here

Red-face & Greenblue-face on Saturday afternoon

Bored by the quietness of Saturday afternoon when nothing is going on over here,

The socks dolls dug again in the pile of socks, it was far more organized in the cloth bowls after I put all the fruits & vegetables back to the kitchen.

With only holes for eyes the Red-face boy was trying to match the perfect sock, eyes that would make the world look much prettier.
The Greenblue-face girl already got some socks for her mouth and eyes,

and she even tattooed a lion all over her arm and shoulder.

Socks dolls and the news

The two socks dolls were done few days ago.
Unforteuntly they happend to see, hear and read too much news over the last few days.

Earlier today the socks duck asked me to turn off TV. It couldn't bear all those war experts explaining the meanings and importance of the attacks.

For a while it was staring on its shirt, then just said that for his opinion they are all wrong.

The socks frog, who was hiding in the other room came back when it heard that the TV was off.
They have nothing to say anymore, just stammering "stupid, stupid" all the time.
These dolls were created to bring some joy to adults and kids. Now when watching the blind killings of both adults and kids Arabs and Israelis, they and me feel so useless, sad and angry.
Both of them (as I did) were so touched by the beautiful words my friend Tali wrote few days ago in her new blog, at the same time emotional and rational thoughts about un-violent way to solve conflicts. Doesn't seems to be realistic at the moment, and for that reason so important/intelligent touching educating, and hopeful.

The question of being a socks doll

Some of the birds flew away and some are yet here, spending time with Gal and me. I decided to create new bunch of creatures.
It is always a long process, while the creatures get some time to wonder who they are, what the hell they are doing on this world and what the meaning of their life.

Sometimes they are lucky enough to have some advice from experienced ones.

Socks dolls work shop

This rabbit went away a while ago, some guy, a friend of friends of mine who was looking for a present to his girlfriend bought it short while after it was completed, I was glad he had no money and had to leave the rabbit few extra minutes while he went to the ATM machine. That time I could snatch few photos of it.

It seemed like I already used all other socks creatures on my workshops invitations, so I was glad to find these photos of the rabbit to the invitation of the next workshop this Friday (more details here).

Socks dolls getting hearts

Remember my funny conversations with the 6-8 years old about dolls hearts, meanwhile very diligently they were stitching and the dolls are becoming to life.
Last week I managed to shoot some during the class, it is not easy thing to do, there is always someone who needs my assistance, and I always in a hurry to help them all.
I'm glad I managed to catch these ones because I couldn't notice all the details at the short time I've had. In second look I love their dolls even more. Here you can see some of their first works -
cardboard dolls
finger puppets.
Besides seeing the lovely dolls I had another very nice surprise last week-
There is two boys who would never sit quietly, they have no patience to listen to my explanations, and always interrupt me while I am talking and explaining, I always have to find creative solutions so they would let me talk, sometimes I ask them to sit next to me and be my assistance, or to pantomime my explanation while I am talking.
When the other kids get to work I have to explain them in person what I have just taught all the others.
I did it patience-less at the beginning but dedicating this extra few seconds to each of them paid off, I noticed that they are understanding even better then the others.
I just figured out they have some concentration problem but have high level of technical and creative skills, it was really exciting to see their development from week to week, it was not only the development of their skills but also to see them enjoying the needlecraft I am teaching.
Last week the manager of this after-school program told me that both of them asked to take my class twice a week, I was so flattered just hopping it wouldn't be too difficult to get along with two of them together, till now one of them took my Monday class and the other the Wednesday class.

Wish you all lovely weekend.

When a doll get a heart?

Yesterday I taught my six-eight years old students how to stitch hands into the already stuffed body of the socks dolls they are creating.
When I began my explanation they immediately said that it is going to hurt the doll, I promised to do it as gentle as I can in order to not cause any pain, and asked them to do the same when stitching hands into their own dolls.
They weren't satisfied by it, so I said it is like a surgery, and she was put to sleep before, most of them agreed it would be better, but there were few who yet kept on claiming I am hurting the doll. I just wanted to finish my explanation and let them stitch by their own, so I loudly said: "I promised all of you she is not being hurt by me, if she did was it would inform us". One of the boys immediately answered that the doll have no mouth to scream, and no eyes to cry, one of the girls told him that the doll don't have any heart too so it can't feel when it hurt.
This opened a whole new conversation weather the stuffing is like blood or like heart, there was a controversy in the class about this issue, till other girl solved it by announcing that dolls get an heart only when they are been done.
