I made these shoes few months ago, it was custom made for the artist Paul tieman, who modeled them at the photos below (I already mentioned Paul few times lately, writing about the kunsttour exhibition he invited me to participate in).
He asked me to design a pair of shoes similar to my Mary Jane's, which according to him resemble some kind of renaissance male shoes, for me it was bit difficult to see the similarity, my Mary janes came out from my dolls slippers which have nothing to do with the renaissance.
It was challenging to design this pair, many images passed through our mails till we agreed about the matching design, but even more challenging was the pattern making and sewing, not only it was completely new shape of shoes, for the first time I had to customized a shoes for male.

See more of Paul's art here at his site or at his blog and more of his performance art

Check out also this blog by Martine Bos, I love her watercolors and thank you very much for featuring me so kindly.

Story of a socks camera

Keeping on with my socks obsession as you can see.
When I quit my job as fashion designer about two and half years ago, I asked my father to borrow his digital canon G1 (He got it shortly before from his brother Ruvi, who decided to go back to the old camera film photography).
I was making my first doll, and was reading about the social net works and photo sharing web sites, I didn't know anything about it, neither about dolls making, I was just curios about both.
I could have unemployment allowance for two months, so I just stayed at home, obsessively made my doll, documented the process of making it, and shared the photos at my new flickr account.
It was definitely a great fun, I suddenly met so many people and received compliments about my work, which encouraged me to keep on.
I didn't feel much like looking for a new job, but as my unemployment allowance were run out I had to do something for living, I found a job at accessories design studio, it sounded great, but was one of the most boring jobs I have ever had, so I didn’t bothered much when I got fired from after a short while.
I decided to go back to the dolls making.
The rest with all the ups and downs already described at the archive of this blog.
My father never asked the camera back, I couldn't do what I am doing without this little help.
From one hand my work is really low tech, with all its needlecrafts and hand stitching which I learned from my mother and grandmother, but at the other hand without the hi tech technologies I wouldn’t even dreamed about all the things that taking place in my life today and meeting all the amazing people I am meeting every day.
I made this camera replication for my up coming exhibition this May at the Dutch city of Maastricht (I already wrote about it at the bottom of this post, more details available here), I am becoming more and more exiting about it, mainly when my ideas are getting shapes and forms.
It became too long post and I am becoming too tired so I will tell more about tomorrow.

Walking in the rain

Yesterday all the meteorologists were talking about an upcoming storm. They promised strong wind, flood, hail, very low temperature, well beside snow on Tel-Aviv they promised almost everything. I was so scared,
I felt like Katharina is going to pay us a visit. I made all the arrangements I could think about, so I wouldn't have to go out today.
I even bought a new sweater for Gal to keep him warm at work.
I woke up this morning, wore my hottest clothes, turned on the heater and then carefully opened the shutter: It did was cloudy outside, but hardly raining and we already had much colder mornings at January.
An hour later it began to rain, here it comes I thought, turning the heater to higher degree, but it was raining for a while, a short while, and stopped. Half an hour later it began again, well now it must be it, but again it stopped after a short while.
It was going on like that all the morning, just a gentle rain lasting only few minutes each time, nothing special. Actually it was just perfect for me, there were so many things I didn't arrange before the "storm" began and had to go out for.

I took my camera with me, Tel-Aviv looks much better when it's raining.

Quilt

My quilt, socks applique quilt, done. I thought about it as a picture that should be hang on the wall, but as I completed all the stitching work, I was curious to test it in other forms too:

Bobilina's merchandise

I made a new cushion to send with my items that being purchased at my etsy or dawanda store.

There is a magnet on its back, so it can be useful as pin cushion, pin picker or just a refrigerator magnet if you are not at the needle crafts or sewing.
It was easy, quick and fun to make,
so I wrote a short tutorial, just in case you want to make one by yourself.
I used an ironing transfer paper, it is very important to remember transforming fonts to mirror writing before printing, otherwise you will get your transferred fonts in mirror writing, I always forget it by my self, I ruined so many transform papers at my life (today I didn't, lucky me).
I cut two pieces of white cotton at the same size as my business card+7mm sewing extras.

Ironing is without steams, round movements and waiting a while before peeling the paper off.

For sewing my serger machine was perfect, but you can use a blanket stitch as well.

After stuffing you have to sew the fourth side.
At last I attached the magnet, first I used a glue gun for that, it wasn't strong enough and I had to take all the magnets out and scrape off the glue from the cushions. My "jewelry glue" was much stronger. I bought it about two years ago at a craft store it's name is "hasulith" you can check it out here (the first one is what I have).

Et Walla! Here they are - my business card cushions magnets. I will send you one if you will ask nicely:)

Flu and new photos

I caught a flu last Saturday and stayed in bed most of last week, wiping my nose over and over again, watching stupid TV, wishing I could do something else, but each time I tried I just fell in sleep after a short time.
I am already fine and feeling much better by now.

This photo was taken last week, three of my photo prints been watched by my creatures. I already wrote about the "bookish creature" print, now I have two new, "the socks room", and "hide&seek".
The all three of them are listed at my etsy store or at my Dawanda store.
