Wonderful new year

It was probably the Christmas time that turned December to some kind slippers endless festive at my home, actually it began much earlier somewhere early October, but some of the orders were done only at the end of last week.
some customer who order a pair for his wife -"I'm a man and suffer from a condition that makes me shop too late".
Well others just bought a Christmas present to themselves and could cope with the delay.

It was great festive but I am missing the dolls making!
Far away at the Dutch city of Maastricht, my softies enjoyed a real Christmas at the "HuismethetHandje" the home and and in house gallery of Gonnie Meijer & Paul Tieman, where I was invited to exhibit this May, My exhibition will be included at the 2008 "kunst tour", a festival of visual arts in Maastricht which began as a local open studios event and has grown in the last few years into an important art event. One of its attractions is the exhibiting of international artists at local galleries and studios that create unique inter-cultural cooperation.
The cat and dog were really glad and excited about this invitation (as did I), they asked me to go earlier, in order to make some arrangements before my arrival...
I will tell more about it at the next posts, but meanwhile you can enjoy the fascinated art made by Paul Tieman.
Wish you all wonderful new year!!!!

Craft with kids -part 2

The fingers puppets are been made by my six and seven years old pupils.
I posted their creations about two months ago, they are not done yet, but looking at the way they made through the last two months make me feel proud.

These two are some of my favorites, I like the way they were so thoughtfully designed.
It is important for me, that my class wouldn't be only about stitching correctly, so I was really touched by these puppets, when I saw the girls who made them paid so much attention to the design process.

This puppet looks a bit like the boy who made it, not really understanding what is going on around, what everyone wants from him, and why no one understands him.
I love this kid very much, though I probably one of those who doesn't understand him. He reminds me how I was and felt at the same age (maybe not only at the same age).

My beloved little red flowers

The red slippers with the floral lining became quite popular at my etsy store, but it's lining is about to run out.
I never had much from this fabric, I bought it two years ago with no idea how to use it, till the idea of making slippers with printed lining came up, it was just perfect for this purpose.
I am rarely finding fabrics from that quality, and I love this floral pattern very much, but when I cut it for making this pair, I noticed I wouldn't have enough for more then two pairs.
There was no choice, I had to find new linings opportunities, I went shopping, with knowing that I could find similar but not the same.
I did hope for some miracle, but it didn't help much.
I felt that I will never find something as pretty as the red one, my heart was almost broken...LOL, never thought I would be so sentimental with floral fabric.

Though my broken heart, I did find some.
When I came back home and took my bargains out of the bags it didn't looked so bad, after all.

Maybe I will fall in love again..
Meanwhile I matched them with the drill fabrics of the externals shoes parts.

This is what I came up with.

Fat creature

Here is the second creature, his story began with my nephew 1st birthday,
I stitched socks dog for him, it was done late at night, and I was quite slippy.
I always feel not satisfied by my work at such hours, so I thought maybe the dog should wear a jacket, I was so slippy and a bit cold so it made sense that the socks dog really need a jacket, more then I need sleeping.
I crocheted a jacket, but it didn't fit well, and I fell a sleep, it was really late. At the next day Eithan, my nephew, was quite satisfied with the dog, even more was his 4 years old sister Shay, she immediately adopted it and declared that the dog prefer to sleep with her, they both doesn't seem to care much about any missing jacket.
The unfitted jacket was left on my desk for a while, I played with it and stitched it till it became this creature's body.
I added a crochet head, crochet bottom, socks features, and painted his face.
And here he is.

Now listed at my etsy store.

New creature.

The creatures I told about at the last post are getting life.
Well Thursday was not enough, I spent some hours during the weekend and all of today finishing them. I have already two of them done, this one is the first, and I have to go shoot the other one.
So just a short description about making him:

I found some forgotten piece of crochet at the bottom of my basket, and transformed it to crochet roll, it immediately became a creature body.
By old socks I added a bottom, head and legs. I put socks shoes to his feet, and sew socks bands as his hair. His shirt was crocheted in three different colors as if it was some kind of a fashionable shirts.
It became cold outside so I crocheted a jacket and scarf for him, by other socks I stitched a hood.
I sew some backpack, so when the summer will come he could put all the extra garments insides and carry them easily.
The last thing was his face - the eyes were made of two marbles in socks pockets, the mouth is just two pieces of socks that were stitched together.
He is now listed at my etsy store, a friend of him will be listed too, soon.

Sewing many shoes

At the last two weeks I was mainly sewing shoes,
slippers, skimmers, Mary Jane, all the sorts I know to sew.
It is probably the holidays time that make people ordering my shoes.

When one batch is been delivered

there are new waiting to be turned inside out.
I love to have orders like this one, when it has colors that rarely been ordered,

or combination that I wouldn't have think about by my self.

Then I had to do the packing again. and so on.
Don't get me wrong, I am glad to sew shoes even though it isn't leave enough time for my other occupations.

The creatures I did managed to sew and stuff in between, are waiting all the week on the red coffee table, I am so glad I will have some time to treat them tomorrow.

Maybe waiting in the living room finally made it worth for them,
that way they could join us lightning the first Hanukkah candle last night.

It was beautiful and cozy evening.
